What is Union County doing about litter?

Addressing litter in our community is a top priority to County leaders, staff and residents. The Board of County Commissioners appointed a Litter Task Force to work with County staff on ideas and strategies to reduce litter on our area roadways, and many of those initiatives are already underway. How can I help with the County's litter prevention efforts?

Organize or help with a litter clean-up, take steps to prevent litter from your vehicle, and regularly address litter on your property and in your general vicinity. If everyone in Union County helped with these three simple steps, our community would be much cleaner! Learn more on the County website.

    How can I report litter?

Review the information on this page under Reporting Litter as well as our Litter Map. This is a new tool we are using to gather residents' input on where litter is most problematic in our community. We'll share the information we receive with law enforcement.

What steps can I take to prevent litter?

Preventing litter starts by having a plan to manage waste responsibly. Have you stopped to think about the ways you can prevent litter?

    • Do you keep a bag in your car to help gather trash?
    • Do you always bag your trash before putting it in your curbside garbage cart or hauling your trash to a disposal facility?
    • Do you talk to your kids and any new drivers in your household about steps they can take to prevent litter?
    • Do you have trash cans publicly available at your business, school, community gathering place, or place of worship?
    • Do you help ensure there is a plan for responsible trash disposal at your community or school events?
    • Do you clean up any litter that falls on your own property?

These are just some of the best practices and conversation starters to ensure that you, your household or organization are doing everything you can to help keep Union County litter free.
